It's short for Apple Information Access Toolkit. Under Mac OS Classic, an Access object-oriented information engine that contained a collection of tools for indexing, research and analysis of large volumes of documents. Search Toolkit is Mac OS X's AIAT. AIAT was formerly known under the code name of the V-Twin engine.
